my entire life i have been in love with photography. i was normally always the one to drag my camera along to sleepovers and teen outings. i knew days, months or years later i would want to look at that single photograph and be transported back to that moment in time. when you couple photographs along with music, scents, feelings and emotions past events can be relived.
as the years have went on, i've continued my adoration of photography and realized more and more the importance of it. the importance of photographs of myself and my loved ones.
for years, i've thought and planned out a big family portrait in my mind. my husband, children, parents and grandma. i knew where, what time of day and what i wanted us to wear. i knew what size i wanted it printed and where i wanted to hang it. i'm a procrastinator and grandma is now gone. i will never get that family portrait. ever.
thankfully i did take pictures of grandma over the years. actually, lots of pictures. it seemed anytime her and my camera were in the same room, it would naturally turn towards her. i appreciate the images I took of her more than ever. i've looked at them daily. i so appreciate the emotion and memories that the images bring up.
don't let your excuses stop you. so many times it's just easier to say...

every time i let one of those thoughts enter my head, i think back to a story i read years ago. i was super crazy obsessed with scrapbooking and spent a good amount of time online browsing forums and blogs. one story has stuck in my head for years. i recall reading a blog post this mama made, about how it was time. it was time to stop waiting to lose weight, to stop waiting for that perfect shot and just start taking pictures of herself. not for her, but for her littles. and in that blog post, she posted a picture of herself. four days later she was killed in a car accident. that one picture will mean the absolute world to her children.
none of us know what our tomorrow will bring. life is quickly flying by, and each day our littles are growing older. there is no perfect time.
i hope that this will inspire someone, who might be waiting for that perfect time or to lose a couple of pounds, to book a photographer…today!
don't wait like i did. don't make the same mistake. photograph a loved one today, while they are still alive. in my years of doing photography, maybe families have come for a portrait session after the loss of a loved one. don't wait, do it now!
